MORE THAN
A GAME
The Prince of Pictou is more than just an escape room. It is a completely original immersive historical experience. Inspired by the real life and times of Atlantic Canada’s most mysterious figure. A man who lived and died right here in Pictou, 1814.
Every element - puzzle, clue, and prop - has been crafted with intention to balance historical accuracy with gameplay enjoyment. No detail has been spared. No fact overlooked.
You won’t just be playing a game; you will be travelling back in time. Immersed in his world. In his story. Solving the game that the Prince of Pictou made—just for you.

An escape room is one giant, continuous, interactive puzzle where you and your team will have to find clues, crack codes, and solve the mystery in order to “escape” the room. But hurry! You only have 60 minutes to do it!
-
Absolutely not! We designed the game with children, youth, and families in mind, and hope that all ages and stages will enjoy the experience and learn from the history. We certainly never underestimate the contributions of kids!
With that said, the game does require reading and logical deduction. For safety and the best game experience, anyone 14 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult participant. And while toddlers are welcome, they may be a bit of a handful in the historic basement setting! Well, because they are toddlers…

Your group can be anywhere between 2 to 6 people.
Just enough players for everyone to have a job sharing the puzzle workload, but not so many that people feel crowded.

Spooky? Maybe- just a little. Scary? Not intentionally. While The Prince of Pictou starts with a death - the story is one of genuine humanity. An emotional tale of tragedy, family, greed, and adventure. No need to worry. There are no ghosts, or jump-scare moments.
-
Unfortunately, no. The Prince of Pictou is not wheelchair or mobility accessible. Currently, the escape room is located in the basement of the McCulloch House Museum, which is a 220-year-old heritage building, and requires participants to traverse two separate flights of stairs. At the moment, there is no ramp or elevator to the basement. However, accessibility and exposure to the House is a top concern and something we are continually trying to improve.

If you like stories, you will love The Prince of Pictou. Our escape room is unique. More than just a game or a series of puzzles, it is a living, breathing, multi-sensory story. A true story about real people who lived and died over 200 years ago. The only way for you to "escape the room" is by totally immersing yourself in their narrative.
There are no modern gadgets or technological elements here; their world is entirely analog. No wires, no electronics, no complicated mathematics, and no random false leads. The game was designed "to be designed" by the protagonist himself—meaning the Prince built the game using only what he had available to him in 1814.
Expect to land in a 19th-century tavern in the Colonial British Empire during the War of 1812—surrounded by all the trappings and scandal of Regency Era politics, the British Crown, Scottish immigration, and maritime life.
All hands on deck. To solve the game, you’ll need to be logical, empathic, and imagitative most of all. -
We are located at the McCulloch House Museum in Pictou, Nova Scotia.
